Department of Public Safety officers arrested a man Monday night in connection with a pipe bomb found in a car earlier this month.

David A. Hilmer, 28, was arrested in Phoenix for probation violation and misconduct with a weapon. He was booked into Maricopa County Jail.

On Aug. 3, a DPS officer stopped a car allegedly driven by Hilmer near Loop 202 and 52nd Street. Hilmer fled from the car on foot once the vehicle came to a stop on 52nd Street below Loop 202, according to a release from DPS.

Upon searching the car, Officer Jim Wood found a device he believed to be a pipe bomb. The DPS Bomb Unit disabled it at the scene. It was later found to be an explosive device filled with pellets.
