All Aboard...Sheriff's deputies verify the addresses of 204 sex offenders and found out that 5 of them were violating sex offender registration laws and a few are fugitives.
The Davidson County Sheriff's Office recently conducted an investigation to ensure that all 204 registered sex offenders listed on the North Carolina sex offender registry in the county are residing at the address listed on the registry.
During the investigation July 16 to Aug. 3, deputies found that five of the offenders were in violation of the sex offender registration laws, according to a press release from the sheriff's office. Four of the violators failed to change their address with the sheriff's office, one violator was living within 1,000 feet of Fairgrove Elementary School, and seven offenders were ordered to report to the sheriff's office to update their photo. The photo appears on the state's sex offender registry Web site.
• Gregory Bernard Sowers, 54, homeless, charged with failure to change address. He was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
• Robert Author Wright, 56, of Conner Street, charged with failure to change address. He was placed in the detention center under a $15,000 secured bond.
• Anthony Montrez Smith, 24, of Lambeth Road, Thomasville, charged with violation of sex offender registry laws; living within 1,000 feet of a state-licensed daycare or state recognized school. He was placed in the detention center under a $15,000 secured bond.
Warrants are outstanding for Kenneth Clark Pixley, 38, and Jerry Jerome McDow, 45, for failure to change address. Pixley's last known address was on Leonard Road. McDow's last known address was on Upton Street.
At this time both subjects' whereabouts are unknown, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. Both men have been entered into the National Crime Information Center index as wanted persons.
