A group of labor union members, religious leaders and students took aim at America's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff during Thursday's budget hearing by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
Former state lawmaker Alfredo Gutierrez was among hundreds of people who turned out to pressure the supervisors about lawsuits against the sheriff and his use of tax money to carry out crime sweeps that have resulted in dozens of illegal immigrants being arrested.
``Common sense ought to visit his brain periodically," said Gutierrez. ``When you have to choose between (arresting) a rapist and a gardener, I think most people would choose the rapist. Sheriff Joe would not. Most people would choose the murderer, Sheriff Joe has not."
Gutierrez added, ``The issue is that the man's anger, the man's hate has overwhelmed his common sense."
Gutierrez specifically mentioned last week's raid on Splashworld, a water theme park where the sheriff said several illegal immigrants were working.
``There's just a total imbalance in terms of what the priorities are to the sheriff," Gutierrez said.
Arpaio showed up at the hearing and told the supervisors, ``We will enforce the laws regardless of what the law is. If they don't like the law, don't come after the sheriff. Come after the county, get the laws changed."
Among Arpaio's critics was Monica Sandschafer, who said the county is facing its biggest economic crisis ever and the sheriff continues to rack up lawsuits.
She said money is being wasted ``defending Arpaio from lawsuits, a lot of money being spent on public relations." Sandschafer said, ``We think that he needs to respect and protect civil rights, not violate them."
While many county departments are being asked to cut budgets and lay off employees, Sandschafer said the sheriff is spending money on crime sweeps targeting illegal immigrants, and other ``frivilous things" like training sessions in Honduras and big offices.
At one point during the hearing, things got out of control when one of the speakers thought he did not get enough time to speak. After a lot of screaming and yelling, many in the audience got up and walked out.

Most American jails are poorly-funded and dangerous. The Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City, California, is typical of US jails. It's supposed to house no more than 688 inmates; but it houses 978. Some inmates are crammed 15 to a room, with no toilets, windows, or water.
It can be worse. In Maricopa County, Arizona, Sheriff Joe Arpaio brags that he spends more per day to feed his police dogs than he does to feed the 8,000 prisoners under his control.
Arpaio houses 2,000 prisoners in tents in the desert. In the summer, temperatures soar to 120ÞF (49ÞC). Arpaio's jails have been the subject of lawsuits and federal investigations since the early 1990's. His guards have been found guilty of brutality.
He also set up the first all-women's chain gang in history. The female inmates work as county cemetery gravediggers in the desert sun, burying indigents and dead babies.
Arpaio also created an Internet "JailCam" that showed prisoners being strip-searched, shackled in "restraint chairs," and women using the toilet.
In Arpaio's jails, inmates work seven days a week, are fed only twice a day, and have to pay $10 if they need medical care. The sheriff bought a military tank to assist in drug busts – but investigators say gangs and drug dealers pervade his jails.
In 1996, an inmate named Jeremy Flanders was beaten nearly to death by gang members in Arpaio's tent city jail; the Arizona Court of Appeals recently upheld a jury's damage award that gave Flanders $635,000 of taxpayer's money to compensate him for the injuries, which the court found "could have been prevented" if Arpaio had not been "deliberately indifferent" to existence of violent gangs in his jails

GALVESTON COUNTY RESIDENT SENTENCED FOR ROLE IN 2006 TEXAS CITY EXPLOSION
Curtis Lee Jetton, 23, of LaMarque, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for aiding and abetting the manufacture of explosive materials without a license, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.
At a hearing this morning, United States District Judge Vanessa Gilmore imposed the 27-month sentence followed by a three-year-term of supervised release. In explaining the sentence, Judge Gilmore noted the approximately five pounds of triacetonetriperoxide (TATP) found in Jetton’s apartment was the largest discovery ever reported in the United States .
She also stated that Jetton had used the TATP to make destructive devices, including one that was detonated underneath a van. Jetton will remain free on bond pending his surrender at a Bureau of Prisons facility.
Law enforcement discovered Jetton’s involvement in the manufacture of TATP after a July 19, 2006, explosion at the Lakeview Apartments in Texas City resulted in the death of Jetton’s roommate. According to information in the public record of this case, Jetton and his roommate began manufacturing TATP in October 2005. Jetton accompanied his roommate to Lowe’s and Sally’s Beauty Supply, where acetone, muriatic acid and other ingredients were purchased. Jetton then assisted his roommate in the manufacturing of TATP based on recipes obtained from the internet. The FBI found several pounds of TATP and some detonators in the apartment after the July 19th explosion.
The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregg Costa.
Immigrants Sedated Without Medical Reason
The U.S. government has injected hundreds of foreigners it has deported with dangerous psychotropic drugs against their will to keep them sedated during the trip back to their home country, according to medical records, internal documents and interviews with people who have been drugged.
The government's forced use of antipsychotic drugs, in people who have no history of mental illness, includes dozens of cases in which the "pre-flight cocktail," as a document calls it, had such a potent effect that federal guards needed a wheelchair to move the slumped deportee onto an airplane.
"Unsteady gait. Fell onto tarmac," says a medical note on the deportation of a 38-year-old woman to Costa Rica in late spring 2005. Another detainee was "dragged down the aisle in handcuffs, semi-comatose," according to an airline crew member's written account. Repeatedly, documents describe immigration guards "taking down" a reluctant deportee to be tranquilized before heading to an airport.
Involuntary chemical restraint of detainees, unless there is a medical justification, is a violation of some international human rights codes. The practice is banned by several countries where, confidential documents make clear, U.S. escorts have been unable to inject deportees with extra doses of drugs during layovers en route to faraway places

Final plea by woman facing Iran deportation. If I'll board the plain I am going to be dead.
A Christian asylum seeker says she will be killed if she is deported to Iran as planned tonight.
Tara Aryan, 28, has lived in Hove since arriving in Britain two years ago and has been waiting for the results of an application for asylum.
She was arrested last week and was still waiting yesterday to hear if her solicitor can get a court ruling to stop her being flown back to Iran at 6.45pm.
Tara told The Argus she believes the fact she has abandoned Islam and embraced Christianity means she will be executed by Iran's fundamentalist regime.
She said: "If it happens I'm going to be dead.
"If I go back I'm going to be lost. I'm going to be met at the airport by the police, disconnected from the world and wiped off the map.
"It's not just me. It happens all the time."
They say there has been no official ruling on a fresh application lodged in December 2006 but the Home Office has said there is no outstanding appeal or application for asylum.
Yesterday afternoon they were still waiting to hear whether the deportation could be postponed while the case is heard in the courts.
From her room in Yarl's Wood immigration removal centre in Bedfordshire, Tara described her strict upbringing and the repressive conditions facing women in Iran.
She said: "From the age of nine you have to start covering yourself, wearing scarves and long clothes to cover your body.
"You can't have a boyfriend.
If you are walking with a man on the street they will arrest you and question you about your relationship with the man.
"If you can't provide the documentation that you are somehow related there is a very big punishment. Sometimes they force you to marry the man. If you cheat on your husband they will stone you to death."
Tara was brought up in a strictly Islamic household and has been disowned by her father since converting to Christianity.
She said: "My father is very religious and is very strict.
"He used to beat my mother.
In Iran the man owns his daughter and his wife, like animals.
"He can do whatever he wants to them and nobody is going to punish him."
Tara became interested in Christianity while a teenager but was turned away by churches in Tehran because they feared reprisals if they actively converted Muslims.
A Salisbury couple has a few more months to fight deportation.
Gerry Vazquez, a Salisbury University professor and an immigrant from Mexico, faces deportation after he unknowingly invalidated his visa when he returned home to see his ailing mother more than a year ago.
Vazquez and his American wife, Claire Kew, also a professor at Salisbury University, were recently given an extension of almost four months before they have to appear at an immigration trial. They say they are using the time to assemble enough documentation to prove the Vazquez should be in good standing with his visas.
"There were about 40 people with us in the courtroom last time, and I'm afraid that's going to be the same setup this time," Kew said of the upcoming trial. "I'm wondering how much time the judge is going to actually have to hear our case and how much time, and if we're really going to get heard the way we need to be."
If the judge decides to go through with deporting Vazquez, the government will prohibit him from entering the US for 10 years.
Jews second most targeted for hate crimes in Canada.
TORONTO — A survey of police-reported hate crimes released recently by Statistics Canada showed that in 2006, Jews were Canada’s most targeted group by religion and second only to blacks as the most victimized group overall.

Of 220 hate crimes motivated by the victim’s religion, 137 were aimed at Jews, or almost 63%. Muslims were the next most affected religious group, with 46 incidents (21%) reported, followed by Catholics, who experienced 13 incidents (6%).
Overall, blacks were the most targeted group, whether considered on racial, ethnic, gender or religious bases. Some 238 hate events were reported involving blacks out of a total of 892 incidents. Blacks were victims in 27% of all occurrences, Jews in 15%.
The data were obtained from the Hate Crime Supplemental Survey, a study of hate crimes reported by police departments across Canada that cover 87 percent of Canada’s population. Statistics Canada reported that the number of hate crimes “accounted for less than one per cent of all criminal incidents reported to police.”
The study showed that half of all hate-motivated crime concerned property offences, while one-third involved violence. The highest rates of police-reported hate crime were in Calgary (9.1 per 100,000 residents), Kingston (8.5), Ottawa (6.6), London (5.9) and Toronto (5.5). “Hate crimes were most likely to involve young people, both as victims and accused persons,” the report stated.
“Most violent hate crimes are committed by strangers rather than persons known to victims. In 2006, 77 percent of victims of police-reported hate crime did not know their perpetrators, compared to 33 percent of victims of other violent crimes.”
The national hate-motivated crimes statistics parallel findings by the hate crimes unit of the Toronto Police Service. In its 2006 report, the unit found that Jews were the second most victimized group, behind blacks.
Twenty-eight of 162 incidents were aimed at Jews (17%), while 15 incidents (9%) targeted Muslims. Blacks were singled out in 30 per cent of occurrences.
Const. Wendy Drummond, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police, said the most recent data for 2007 again showed that Jews were the second most targeted group, behind blacks. Altogether, Jews were affected in 29 percent of incidents, while blacks were targeted in 33 per cent of events. Gays were next at 13 percent, followed by Muslims and Pakistanis at 9 percent each.
Police also recorded a “multi-bias” category – where the motivation involved more than one type of animus, such as a black and gay – in which Jews were the second-most-targeted group, she said.
Wendy Lampert, national director of community relations for Canadian Jewish Congress, said the findings are consistent with long-standing patterns.
“Historically, we have been targeted,” she said. “We really have to remain vigilant as a community and take appropriate measures to secure our facilities going forward.”
Discrimination in the Name of Integration in Netherlands.
These measures keep families apart and appear to be aimed at keeping certain kinds of people out of the Netherlands. However, in the past few years a growing anti-immigrant attitude has grown in the Netherlands, fuelled by mistrust and fears about global terrorism.
The Netherlands should abolish the overseas “integration test” that discriminatorily targets only migrants of certain nationalities trying to join their families, while citizens from other, “western” countries are exempt, Human Rights Watch said in a briefing paper released today. People of Moroccan and Turkish origin – two of the three largest “non-western” migrant communities in the Netherlands – have been especially affected.
In the 44-page briefing paper, “Discrimination in the Name of Integration, Migrants’ Rights Under the Integration Abroad Act,”,Human Rights Watch offers an analysis of the Dutch overseas integration test in light of the Netherlands’ international human rights obligations.
Human Rights Watch found that people of Moroccan and Turkish origin are especially affected, while citizens from “western” countries such as Canada, Australia, and Japan are exempt. “The overseas integration test is discriminatory because it explicitly applies only to relatives from predominantly ‘non-western countries,’” said Holly Cartner, Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “These measures keep families apart and appear to be aimed at keeping certain kinds of people out of the Netherlands.”
Over the past several years, the Netherlands has introduced a series of measures with the stated aim of better integrating its migrant population. Besides an exam that is taken by migrants in the Netherlands, another measure is the integration test under the Integration Abroad Act. In force since March 2006, the act requires certain would-be family migrants to pass the test in their country of origin before they can join spouses or family members in the Netherlands. Under this integration test, applicants must demonstrate basic knowledge of the Dutch language and basic concepts of Dutch society before they enter the Netherlands. The test is administered in Dutch by telephone to the applicant sitting at a computer at the Dutch embassy or consulate in the applicant’s home country. If the candidate fails the telephone test, the person will have to take the exam again and pay the examination fee of €350 each time the test is taken. The impact of the test, coupled with increased financial requirements applicable to all migrants, has fallen primarily on those wanting to join family members from two of the three largest “non-western” migrant communities in the Netherlands – Moroccans and Turks.
There has been a significant reduction in the number of applications for family reunification and formation since the introduction of the test, and applications from Turkey and Morocco in particular have fallen significantly. Exempted from the test are citizens from the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and the US. “It sends the message that certain groups are not welcome,” said Cartner. “And it risks alienating these communities instead of facilitating their integration.” While international human rights law does not prohibit states from differentiating between citizens and non-citizens in immigration policies, states cannot discriminate on the basis of nationality or ethnicity (aside from a narrow exception for EU citizens) even in this sphere. Dutch authorities would need extremely powerful reasons to justify the clear difference in treatment between different nationalities in the application of this test. The briefing paper concludes that the legitimate objective to better integrate all migrants cannot be met by a test that only some migrants trying to join their families are required to take, and from which others are exempted simply because of their nationality.
A general exemption for persons from a number of countries is contrary to the alleged aim of the Integration Abroad Act, namely that all migrants should have a basic level of integration before arrival and that the test helps the ongoing integration once the person is in the Netherlands. The paper shows that no sufficient evidence has been put forward to adequately explain why for nationals of some countries, the integration program in the Netherlands is deemed sufficient for integration, and no overseas test is required. The main argument put forward to explain this distinction in treatment is that the countries exempt from the test are similar to the Netherlands in their socio-economic and political development. The government has argued that exempting western countries would not lead to unwanted immigration and problems with integration in Dutch society.
This suggests that reducing immigration, especially from certain countries, and not just achieving integration, was actually a main reason for the legislation. “No strong evidence has been given to show that the level of a country’s development is a reliable indicator of the capacity or willingness of a potential immigrant to integrate,” said Cartner.
The test and financial burden, which restrict family reunification, undermine the right to family life and Netherland’s obligation to give all residents the right to marry and start a family. There is an increasing tendency by other EU member states to follow the Dutch approach on compulsory integration measures in the country of origin. “The Netherlands is a leading model for other EU states on integration issues,” said Cartner. “Developing an effective approach to integration, that does not discriminate on the basis of nationality and is fully consistent with international human rights law, would also serve as a positive example for other European states.”

South of Ottawa, along the St. Lawrence River in an area know as Thousand Islands, agents chase smugglers known as river rats — mom and pop operators running cigarettes, liquor and drugs across the border into New York.
In Derby Line, Vt., the Haskell Free Library and Opera House straddles the border. The front door is in the United States. The checkout desk is in Canada. That could come to an end. Earlier this year, two vans carrying 21 Undocumented immigrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere were stopped in Derby Line.
Residents of North Dakota and Minnesota fear their cold winters may have frozen the motion detectors along their border with Canada.
Along Montana’s Sweetgrass Hills and Milk River, the border, in some places, is separated by nothing more than a broken fence. In one incident, a rancher in Montana’s desolate prairie stopped two Jamaicans dressed in T-shirts and shorts.
“It would be difficult to secure the (northern) border with the assets we have there now,” said Greg Kutz, a Government Accountability Office investigator and author of a recent study that found terrorists carrying nuclear material could easily enter the United States from Canada.
SECURITY FALLS SHORT
While Colburn and others say there is no hard evidence showing illegal activity has increased on the northern border, Sheriff Elfo said there is mounting anecdotal evidence. He points to the discovery in August of two backpacks hidden in a ditch near the Black Mountain Boy Scout Camp north of Silver Lake, between Maple Falls and the Canadian border. The backpacks contained about 68 pounds of cocaine, with a street value of about $1.2 million.
Colburn is well aware of the problems.
“We are nowhere near where we think we should be,” he said in an interview about security along the northern border. “But we are getting there faster than ever before.”
Customs and Border Protection now has air wings in Bellingham, Great Falls, Mont., Grand Forks, N.D, and Plattsburg, N.Y. The air wings include Blackhawk helicopters, surveillance aircraft and Predator unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition to “boots on the ground,” Colburn said agents use all-terrain vehicles, Zodiac inflatable boats and snowmobiles. Motion detectors, radar and infrared technology also are deployed.
“Just because you don’t see us doesn’t mean we don’t see you,” Colburn said.
On Capitol Hill, lawmakers from northern border states remain frustrated. Given the outrage over undocumented workers flooding in from Mexico, they remain skeptical the Border Patrol will ever pay enough attention to the northern border.
“They aren’t leaning forward on this,” said Rep. Norm Dicks, DWash., a member of the House Homeland Security Committee.
Congress wants to add as many as 600 additional agents to northern border patrols. But some say even that isn’t enough.
“There will still be a huge inequity,” said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. “We do have problems with illegal immigrants on the southern border, but we have problems with terrorists on the northern border.”
CANADA’S TERRORISM RISK
Given Canada’s open immigration policies, terrorist organizations have established cells there seeking “safe havens, operational bases and attempting to gain access to the USA,” according to a 1998 report from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. The report said more than 50 terrorist groups may be present, including Hezbollah, Hamas and radical Islamic groups from Iran and Algeria.
A 2006 report from the Nixon Center, a Washington, D.C., think tank, quoted a senior FBI official as saying Canada is the most worrisome terrorist point of entry and al- Qaida training manuals advise terrorists to enter the United States from Canada.
The report concluded that “despite widespread alarms raised over terrorist infiltration from Mexico, we found no terrorist presence in Mexico and a number of Canadian-based terrorists who have entered the United States.”
Among them were Ahmed Ressam — the so-called Millennium Bomber who was stopped in 1999 by an alert agent at a border crossing in Port Angeles, before he could carry out a plot to bomb Los Angeles International Airport — and Gazi Ibrahim Abu Mezer, a Palestinian terrorist who was mistakenly released after being stopped near Bellingham in 1997. He then moved to Brooklyn where he was later convicted of plotting to bomb a New York City subway station.
“They have to be concerned about the Canadian border,” said Robert Leiken, one of the authors of the Nixon Center study. “If they aren’t, we are in a lot of trouble.”
Law enforcement officials say the presence of suspected terrorists in Canada is a worry, and they share intelligence on the threat daily.
“The fact that we have identified people connected with terrorism who have crossed the border shows we are paying attention,” said Mike Cabana, a chief superintendent with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who oversees border security.
Canadians are aware that the crackdown on the U.S.-Mexico border could affect them.
“If the U.S.-Mexico border is sealed, it is safe to assume criminality will be displaced and it is logical to assume it could affect the northern border,” said Cabana. “Of course we are concerned, but it is too early to tell whether it will make a difference.”

Back in Blaine, down the street from the Smuggler’s Inn, Shirley- Ann Leu says she and her husband, Herbert, have learned to live with Border Patrol agents sitting on their back retaining wall, the RCMP flashing lights in their yard at 3 a.m. and the helicopter patrols.
“The big cameras are going round and round all the time,” she said. “They know every car in the neighborhood. You get used to it.”
Despite the heightened security, Sheriff Elfo said he remains anxious about the terrorists, drug smugglers and illegal immigrants who view the Canadian border as an easy route into the United States.
“The help from the feds has improved dramatically,” he said. “But we know individuals and contraband continue to cross regularly.”

MAN CONVICTED FOR FAILING TO REPORT TO THE IRS OVER $5 MILLION IN INCOME FROM THE SALE OF COMPUTER PARTS AND SOFTWARE
SAN FRANCISCO—United States Attorney Joseph P. Russoniello and Special Agent in Charge, IRS Criminal Investigation, Scott O’Briant announced that Mohammad Yousuf Chaudhry was convicted by a federal jury on Friday of filing false tax returns, conspiracy, and structuring currency transactions to evade a reporting requirement. The jury, after deliberating over two days, found Mr. Chaudhry guilty of all 16 charges against him. The guilty verdict followed a one-week trial before U.S. District Court Judge Charles R. Breyer.
Evidence at trial showed that Mr. Chaudhry, of Los Altos, California, was involved in a conspiracy to structure transactions to avoid financial reporting requirements. Specifically, Mr. Chaudhry conspired with others to cash checks from his computer software customers in such a way that the $10,000 threshold that triggers the filing of a Currency Transaction Report or CTR was not triggered. He did not report the checks he had converted into cash as income for his two businesses – RT Computers (RT) and Alternative Energy Systems (AES) -- on the federal corporate income tax returns. In total, Mr. Chaudhry failed to report over $5 million in income on his corporate tax returns. One of his employees, Ali Khan of San Jose, California assisted Mr. Chaudhry with structuring transactions by cashing multiple checks in amounts less than $10,000 at local check cashers, instead of depositing those checks into business bank accounts. Some of those check cashers agreed they would not file Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) with the IRS. Mr. Khan further helped to cover up Mr. Chaudhry’s scheme by filing false CTRs on behalf of RT and AES and by using a false signature when endorsing checks. Mr. Khan participated in cashing over 150 checks, and Mr. Chaudhry personally cashed many more. Mr. Khan pleaded guilty on May 27, 2008 to 26 USC § 7207 (filing false documents with the Internal Revenue Service).
Mr. Chaudhry was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 23, 2003. He was charged with five counts of subscribing to a false corporate income tax return filed with the Internal Revenue Service, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(1); one count of conspiring to structure transactions to evade reporting requirements in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371; and 11 counts of structuring transactions for the purpose of evading a reporting requirement, in violation of Title 31, United States Code, Section 5324(a)(3). One count of filing a false corporate return was dismissed at the close of the government’s case.
The sentencing of Mr. Chaudhry is scheduled for September 17, 2008, before Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco. Deportation of parent leaves family on pain.
Eleven-year-old Fanta Fofana spoke barely above a whisper as she described the day immigration officers burst into her Bronx apartment and took her dad.
"I was sleeping with my sisters and my cousins," Fanta said, her eyes downcast. "The police came and took my father away from my family. I was born here and I can't believe my country would do this to me."
Fanta said she has spoken to her dad, Senegalese national Sory Fofana, 47, many times since his deportation last November. He tells her not to worry and that he'll come back soon, she said.
But after an immigration court determined that Fofana improperly overstayed his visa, in violation of a prior order to leave the country in 1998, that seems unlikely, immigration officials said.
Now, Fanta and her five younger siblings pray that their undocumented immigrant mother isn't the next to go - stripping them of both their parents.
They've been getting help from the New Sanctuary Movement (www.newsanctuarymovement.org), a local multifaith advocacy group working to keep undocumented immigrant parents and their U.S. citizen kids together.
The year-old group has 22 participating congregations across the city, including those from Christian, Muslim and Jewish faiths, organizers said.
The group provides material, spiritual and legal support. It runs a food pantry and holds English classes to help immigrants get the skills needed to survive in this country, organizers said.
Advocates are also pushing to reform immigration laws to let judges consider the needs of U.S.-born children when determining the fate of undocumented parents. One such bill, the Child Citizen Protection Act, was introduced by Rep. José Serrano (D-Bronx) in February.
"We shouldn't be in the business of separating families," said Shaykh Bashir, of the House of Peace in Harlem, part of the New Sanctuary Movement. "The idea of [the children] going to foster care ... is unconscionable."
Bashir said he's not pushing for blanket amnesty. "If a person's a criminal, I don't want them here," he said.
But he believes parents working here to support their citizen children deserve some leeway.
Fanta's mother, who has lived here for more than a decade, agreed.
"I want to stay with my children. They need me. I need them," said Fatoumata, 31, who asked that only her first name be used. "There are no children who deserve to be without [their] father or mother
Stop the Deportation of 'Tara Aryan' from U.K.
Tara Aryan is an Iranian refugee to the UK who converted to Christianity last year. The home office is trying to deport her to Iran. If they are sucessful she could face imprisonment or death for 'abandoning Islam'.
Tara has lived in Brighton for two years before being detained at Yarl's Wood Removal Centre. She was scheduled to be deported on Friday 13th June on a BMI flight from Heathrow. She was transferred to the airport but the removal was deferred after a judicial review was lodged by her solicitor. Tara is now detained again at Yarl's Wood
Tara was baptised last year at a church in Brighton. This means that under Iranian law she could face imprisonment or death for abandoning Islam and converting to Christianity.
Tara entered the UK in 2006 and made an asylum claim but was refused. She tried to make a fresh claim but the Home Office refused to consider it.
Although the immediate risk of deportation has passed pending the results of Tara's Judicial Review she is still at risk if the hearing does not go well.
Immigration appeals board upholds deportation order for former Nazi guard.
A federal appeals board has upheld a deportation order for a Wisconsin man who served as a Nazi concentration camp guard during World War II, the Justice Department announced Monday.
The federal Board of Immigration Appeals upheld a deportation order issued in January 2007 against 83-year-old Josias Kumpf of Racine, who had served as a guard at the Trawniki training camp in Nazi-occupied Poland and the Sachsenhausen concentration camp near Berlin. The Board of Immigration Appeals is part of the Justice Department.
Last year's deportation order, issued by Chicago-based immigration Judge Jennie Giambastiani, called for Kumpf's removal to Germany, Austria or Serbia. Kumpf can still appeal the deportation order in the federal court system.
In 2005, a federal judge in Milwaukee stripped Kumpf's U.S. citizenship, concluding that he "personally assisted" in the persecution of prisoners. That judge, Lynn Adelman, said Kumpf arrived at Trawniki no more than a day after 8,000 Jewish prisoners were killed at an adjoining labor camp in 1943.
Adelman wrote that Kumpf "stood guard near the pits where the massacre occurred with instructions to shoot prisoners who attempted to escape, including those who in his words were 'still halfway alive.'"
The judge also found that when Kumpf applied for an immigrant visa to the United States in 1956, he did not disclose that he had been an SS guard because he feared it would disqualify him.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew Friedrich said in a statement that Kumpf participated in an operation that resulted in the murder of thousands of innocent victims.
"His culpability in this atrocity does not diminish with the passage of time," Friedrich said. The Board of Immigration Appeals ruling, he added, "bolsters the department's continuing efforts to ensure that those who took part in the crimes of the Nazi Holocaust are not allowed to enjoy the privileges and freedom the United States offers its citizens."
In 2003, the Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations, along with the local U.S. Attorney's office, moved to strip Kumpf of his citizenship. Kumpf, who was born in Serbia, said in an interview at the time that he was taken from his home in Yugoslavia as a 17-year-old and forced to serve as a guard, but he did not participate in any atrocities.
Messages left with Kumpf and his attorney were not immediately returned Monday

The FDA reports the overwhelming majority of tomatoes consumed in the U.S. at the time of the salmonella outbreak were from inside the U.S., Central Florida and outside the U.S., Mexico.
How Schiavonne, Lou Dobbs and FDA found out Salmonella outbreak is from Mexico? When they had admitted there is no regular inspections or enough inspectors.!!

A new Congressional investigation tonight shows what we've been reporting on this broadcast literally for years. That our borders remain virtually wide open, that our border with Mexico is wide open, and as Casey Wian now reports, undercover investigators had a more than 90 percent, 90 percent success rate as they tried to enter this country illegally.
Casey Wian relied on a GAO SECRET INVESTIGATIVE report performed on 2006.
Even the test with explosives or Radioactive Material were performed on the Northern Border. Why he didn't Mentioned Northern Border.(Canada)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): This is an undercover tester for the Government Accountability Office packing phony radioactive material and then smuggling it across unguarded sections of the U.S./Mexico border. The same GAO study of border security over the past five years found that even at legal crossing points testers were able to use fake ID to enter illegally 93 percent of the time.
GAO concluded that terrorists or other criminals could use counterfeit identification to pass freely through most of the tested ports of entry with little chance of being detected.
